The Breakdown
Thesis: Berry Gordy is a great figure in the music world from back then until now. Gordy grew up with 7 brothers and sisters and he dropped out of high school his junior year. From there Berry got a record store and named it three-D record mart. From that store is where he started his career to become who he is today. Our project relates to NHD theme "Leadership and Legacy" because Berry Gordy started Motown records and he is known for producing a lot of artist and also music. Also his life before him becoming famous made him become the great person that is now and also that he was back then. He had to drop out of school because he didn't have stable support from his mother or father; he didn't have stable support because he had 7 brothers and sisters that needed taken care of also and all of the attention couldn't be given to him so he had to drop out of school. He showed people that no matter what goes on in life, just keep trying and following your dreams until they become a success. Even when his business fell to its lowest point, he kept trying and before he knew it, he was a big success. He helped many black artist pursue their dreams while bettering his dreams at the same time. That is a perfect example of a leader because when he became famous he wasn't selfish, he gave back to his people and helped them out. Our event is so important in history because if it wasn't for Berry Gordy, we wouldn't of had some of the good artist that we have now. Black music wouldn't have been greatly presented in the interest of white people if he wouldn't have made his record label.
